Xugana Island Lodge is set in a true natural wonder, the pristine Okavango Delta - the world’s largest inland Delta supports a rich diversity of wildlife and some 450 bird species. The Lodge nestles under a grand canopy of trees on an island overlooking the lush Xugana Lagoon, with its network of tranquil waterways and whispering papyrus beds.
Enjoy thrilling power boat cruises and dreamy jaunts in traditional dug-out canoes (mokoro) in the expert care of Xugana’s local guides. You may encounter the rare red lechwe or the semi-aquatic sitatunga antelope on superb nature walks, or indulge in a spot of fishing for Tiger and Bream in the Lagoon.
Highlights
Activities
This is a permanent water camp so only water activities and walking are offered. Good to combine with a land camp but perfect for those wanting a bit of relaxation while on safari.
Rooms
Standard Room
The Lodge’s rustic reed and thatch chalets epitomize minimal elegance and well-thought-out design. Xugana Island accommodates only 16 guests in eight chalets, each with views over the lagoon. All the chalets feature twin beds, en suite bathrooms, overhead fans, and private viewing decks.
Facilities
The central boma is delightfully free of fussy décor, blending classic Colonial-era design with homely comforts and practical touches. Escape the midday heat with a refreshing dip in the swimming pool, which is set in the Lodge’s lush gardens. The communal viewing deck lends itself to convivial conversations with your fellow guests, while the stylish little bar is the ideal spot to share an after-dinner liqueur.
Dining
The service is warm and sincere, perfectly complementing the food and a worthy selection of South African wines. The kitchen serves up a fusion of delicious local flavors and international cuisine, which is served in an open-air boma or the alfresco dining area. Both are semi-enclosed areas under the island’s towering mahogany and mangosteen trees and offer differing, but equally dazzling, views over the Okavango Delta’s pristine waters.
A romantic, candlelight dinner for two on the floating deck is highly recommended with its novel position on the lagoon and star-studded sky overhead.
