Situated on the banks of the Chongwe River near the Lower Zambezi National Park, Time + Tide Chongwe Camp offers a non-intrusive safari experience in a relaxed, natural setting where large herds of elephants roam. The Lower Zambezi valley has some of the best game viewing in Southern Africa along with some of the most awe-inspiring flora and fauna.
Relax in the sitting area overlooking the river and watch the constant procession of the game coming to drink. The riverbanks also make for spectacular bird watching – the area is home to over 250 species. Get closer to nature on a guided game drive in open 4x4 vehicles, on a tranquil canoe safari, or find a peaceful spot and try your hand at tiger fish angling.
In addition to the nine double tents, there are two tented family suites, each with its own dining and living area, plunge pool, and outdoor fire pit.
Highlights
Activities
A lovely tented camp on the banks of the Mighty Zambezi that offers a true African experience. This lodge works for visitors looking for a true bush camp, still offering the bells and whistles of a luxury lodge.
Rooms
Standard Tent
The nine tents at the Chongwe River Camp are large, well-appointed Mulati tents set under thatch, with open-air en suite bathrooms.
Each tent sleeps two people on twin or king-sized beds and has a dressing area with a wardrobe and full-length mirror. The bathrooms feature an outdoor shower and fittings made from natural materials found near the lodge.
Situated under a canopy of albida thorns and surrounded by cool lawns, the tents command fabulous views of the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi rivers from their private decks.
The Albida Suite sleeps four in two spacious octagonal tents separated by a private lounge and dining area and is ideal for families traveling together. It has a bar fridge, an exclusive-use plunge pool, and a fire pit. The interiors are a fusion of Victorian and African elements with overstuffed couches, rich hardwoods, and crisp linen. The two en suite open-air bathroom tents have twin vanities, an old-fashioned ball-and-claw tub, and a flush toilet.
The Cassia Suite sleeps two and, in addition to all the same features of the Albida Suite, also has a refreshing rain shower and a fully stocked bar.
Facilities
Spend some time relaxing in the sitting area that overlooks the river. Enjoy watching the wildlife that comes to the river to drink, including the spectacular variety of birds found here, as you sip on a cool drink. There is a small swimming pool surrounded by sun loungers for guests to use on hot afternoons.
Dining
Meals include both local and international flair and are typically enjoyed at the camp's outdoor dining table. Dining alfresco, under a canopy of stars, truly is an unforgettable experience.
