Sited just over six miles or 10km from the popular Andersson Gate to Etosha National Park in Namibia, Etosha Safari Lodge is perfect for large groups travelling together and has a unique ‘African shebeen with a twist’ look and feel.
Boasting lovely views over the mopane bush from the hillock it is located, Etosha Safari Lodge has 65 double cottages, three swimming pools and a large buffet-style restaurant with pre-allocated seating. It is the communal areas – especially the Okambashu Restaurant and Oooh Shebeena Bar – that make the lodge especially memorable: inspired by ‘township chic’, the décor consists of historical and political memorabilia that celebrates the country’s past. At the same time, the furniture comprises unique items like chairs fashioned from recycled tractor tyres, with plenty of authentic zinc cladding. Like any shebeen (or township tavern) worth its salt, the bar at Etosha Safari Lodge also has a pool table and television for watching sports.
The cottages have air conditioning, queen-sized beds and en suite bathrooms with a touch of whimsy in the large showers. Although there is no wildlife around the lodge, there are daily 4x4 game drives into Etosha, which is Namibia’s flagship reserve.

Rooms
Standard Room
There are 65 cottages spread out across the large property – ask for one close to the main lodge if you prefer not to walk. All rooms are brick with zinc roofs, a typical architectural rural style in Southern Africa. Each is equipped with air conditioning, chairs on the terrace and a queen-sized bed draped in mosquito netting. Colourful African art adorns the walls while the en suite bathrooms have a comical elephant motif in the large shower!
Facilities
Etosha Safari Lodge has three swimming pools and a wooden platform high above the surrounding mopane bush that is ideal for watching sunrises or sunsets, or perhaps for perfecting your bird watching.
Dining
The Okambashu restaurant is divided into two ‘dining halls’ and has inside and outside seating. The staff will let you know where you will be sitting for the duration of your stay. All meals are buffet style and include exotic venison options like roast springbok, oryx and kudu.
