Style & Décor
Contemporary European style meets Afro-chic in a joyous union in this secluded bush retreat. Plush furnishings in rich textures and earthy hues are accented by pops of burnt orange that recall the classic African sunset. Double-volume thatched roofs echo traditional dwellings of the region, while floor-to-ceiling doors fold back to seamlessly connect interior and exterior spaces in this ‘treehouse for grown-ups’.
Neighbourhood
Morukuru Owner’s House is situated in the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa’s North West province. At 75,000 hectares, this is one of the largest game reserves in the country. Because the animals, including the Big 5, have no reason to migrate, Madikwe offers unrivalled all-year game viewing. In addition, guests can enjoy excellent bird watching, freshwater fishing safaris and water sports on the private dam. For after-hours relaxation, have a spa treatment or learn a traditional local dance, even if you think you have two left feet!
Suitability
This exclusive-use bush lodge is ideal for small families, couples or honeymooners wanting a tranquil escape with all amenities and activities on tap.
The best time to visit
While many parks around South Africa experience high and low seasons in terms of spotting games, Madikwe Private Game Reserve offers superb year-round game viewing. Due to the reserve being under single management, the animals do not undertake any major migrations and can easily be spotted during both the wet and dry seasons. The wet season runs from October to April and sees Africa at its greenest, with lush landscapes, flowing rivers and bird-and-newborn-viewing at its best. The dry season in winter sees warm, clear days and crisp nights, making for breath-taking game spotting.
