Set on a private nature reserve an easy drive from Hosea Kutako International and Windhoek Eros Domestic Airports, Omaanda makes a magical stayover in Windhoek, whether at the start or end of your safari. The lodge prides itself on a comfortably relaxed atmosphere and impeccable, personalised service for an overnight stay in Windhoek.
Overlooking a rolling savannah landscape, Omaanda offers a total of 10 rooms, all air-conditioned and en suite. There are eight chalets with a double bed or twin beds and two larger chalets that can sleep up to six guests and are ideal for families. Traditional in feel but modern in build, the lodge has a world-class range of facilities such as Wi-Fi throughout the property, a Bluetooth television in each room, a heated swimming pool and a wellness spa.
The ambience at Omaanda is unmistakably Namibia: the thatched chalets are modelled on local Owambo huts, the sun sets over thorn trees and you may hear the distant cough of a leopard at night. Formerly a cattle ranch, the Zannier Reserve on which Omaanda is found was created in collaboration with the local community, who were seeking to rehabilitate the land. Wildlife has been reintroduced and includes several rare creatures such as wild dogs and white rhinos as well as more familiar ones like giraffes, zebra and baboons, all waiting to be discovered on morning or afternoon game drives.
Highlights
Activities
A luxurious safari lodge set in a private conservancy, and within easy reach of both the international airport and the domestic airport, Omaanda offers guests a unique and stylish gateway to their travels in Namibia or the opportunity to unwind and reflect before departing this diverse and fascinating country.
Rooms
Two Bedroom Hut
Two of Omaanda’s accommodations were designed with families and small groups of friends in mind. Each covers 120 square metres (1300 square feet) and has two bedrooms which, together with an extra bed or two, can sleep up to six (four adults and two children). With a bathroom each, the bedrooms open out onto a large communal lounge warmed by a fireplace and there is plenty of outdoor space to relax and enjoy the views. Each of the chalets is equipped similarly to the smaller units – from air conditioning and Wi-Fi to chilled bottled water and a bathtub with a view.
One Bedroom Hut
Eight of the ten accommodations at Omaanda are modelled on the rounded, thatched huts of the local Owambo people and have been built with traditional building materials to create a simple, understated style. Step inside and a luxurious new world opens up: each ‘hut’ is 60 square metres (650 square feet) and contains a king-size double bed (or twin beds if requested) a desk, an armchair and a large walk-in dressing room. You have a private bathroom, complete with a walk-in rain shower, separate toilet, double basin and a large bathtub with sit-back views over the rolling savannah.
The room’s open fireplace is a nice touch for chilly winter evenings but you may want the comfort of the air conditioning in summer. The chalets are all equipped with a flat-screen television with Bluetooth connectivity and Wi-Fi. You will also find a minibar, a laptop-size safe, a Nespresso machine and an electric kettle. Step outside and you have a large private outdoor area with seating and great views.
Facilities
Omaanda aims to deliver a superb hotel experience with a savannah backdrop. Thatched and with timber and canvas features, the main lodge is home to reception, an open-sided lounge, bar and dining area, a boutique and an outside deck where you find a heated swimming pool and sun loungers with views of rolling hills and distant mountains. Wi-Fi is available throughout the lodge and you can recharge batteries and electrical devices via Omaanda’s power supply, a reliable solar/mains hybrid. There is also a wellness spa on site with two double treatment rooms – ideal for a couple’s massage.
Dining
Omaanda has established itself as something special when it comes to its cuisine. Drawing on themes of seasonality and local produce, the kitchen staff conspire to deliver three excellent meals a day, served à la carte or as a mezze. Meals are served at individual tables and either inside or outside depending on the weather.
Breakfast is à la carte and offers the classics - full English breakfast, waffles, pancakes, cereals and yoghurt - as well as more elaborate ones like poached eggs with avocado toast or an English muffin with spinach and salmon. You choose your lunch from a Mediterranean mezze-style menu inspired by global tastes: humus and tzatziki might sit next to tuna sashimi. Dinner is a 4-course plated meal – a starter (perhaps oryx carpaccio), entree and dessert. You have three choices of entrée (for instance a beef fillet, grilled fish or a vegetarian lasagne) and desserts include tiramisu with roasted banana and an almond-and-banana crumble.
