While the seaside suburb exudes a laid-back village feel, it is also home to an exquisite palm-lined beachfront known as ‘the strip’, where you find the most fashionable restaurants, the coolest cafés and the most glamorous nightclubs in Cape Town.

The best time to visit

November through to March promises long, hot summer days and warm nights. Be prepared for busy beaches and bustling sidewalks in peak-season December and January but February and March see cloudless skies and less-crowded beaches. The summer winds die down in April and May, and the city's beaches are virtually yours alone to enjoy.

While the winter months are cool and rainy, it is the perfect time to explore the many museums and cultural history of this amazing city. And although wet and windy cold fronts sweep in regularly from late May to October, the long dry, sunny spells between them promise 'champagne weather' and are perfect to be outside.
