The prison was built in 1893 and was originally intended to house violent prisoners from the mainland and sick people. You will visit the tortoise sanctuary, which contains a large colony of giant tortoises imported from the Seychelles in the late 19th century. The tour begins with a private boat trip to Changuu Island, also known as Prison or Turtle Island. The island earned its name after it was purchased in 1893 by the British First Minister of Zanzibar who constructed a prison complex here.

Our Driver will meet the clients and transfer to the departure point at Stone Town. The tour begins with a private boat trip to Changuu Island, also known as Prison Island or Turtle Island. The island earned its name after it was purchased in 1893 by the British First Minister of Zanzibar who constructed a prison complex here. Currently, the oldest tortoise on Changuu Island is estimated to be 196 years old, predating the colonial occupation of Zanzibar, clients will get a chance to experience this place and enjoy snorkeling.
