Kusini kopje kambi lodge detail

From its hilltop location (‘kopjes’ means hillocks), Kusini Kopjes Kambi looks out over the plains of the southern Serengeti, putting this contemporary tented camp in prime position for rewarding game viewing throughout the year. Morning and afternoon drives with expert guides take you into the heart of the drama and you can balance the vehicle-based game viewing with guided nature walks and hot-air balloon safaris, offering you the chance to see the savannah from a different perspective.

The southern Serengeti is a classic big game country and an area especially noted for lions and cheetahs; it is also where the annual Wildebeest Migration enters one of its most dramatic stages. During a 2- or 3-month period, from about January to March, wildebeest calves are born here in their tens of thousands, attracting predators ranging from big cats and wild dogs to hyenas and jackals. The game viewing is exceptional during this time and offers one of the best opportunities to see predator-prey interactions. The newborn wildebeest thrives on the plentiful grazing and ample water available, and photographers will enjoy how the brilliant green scenery makes their photographs come alive.

Kusini Kopjes Kambi blends comfort and sophistication without going over the top. The camp delivers a traditionally luxurious East African safari, right down to the vivid and cozy Maasai blanket wrapped around your shoulders as you watch the sunset. The tented suites are extremely spacious and well furnished, and feature a separate lounge and outdoor deck as well as a full en suite bathroom.

Facilities

Kusini Kopjes Kambi has a traditional safari camp layout with a main communal building that is home to the lounge, dining area, and bar, flowing out onto raised wooden decking overlooking the Serengeti.

Two safari activities are offered a day – a morning and an afternoon game drive – and you can also enjoy guided walks after breakfast, a fascinating way to view the smaller details of the Serengeti landscape and recommended for bird watchers. Optional hot-air balloon safaris are also available, taking you into a dawn sky above the savannah and returning you to a champagne breakfast on landing.

Dining

Your day in the southern Serengeti begins early with a light breakfast followed by your morning drive. A hearty brunch or lunch awaits your return and, of course, no afternoon game drive would be the same without high tea served beforehand. There are cold drinks and snacks on your late afternoon drive, after which you return to camp for fireside drinks and canapés while a delicious 3-course meal is prepared in the camp’s kitchen.
