Kuro Tarangire Camp detail

Lying in northern Tanzania and named after the life-giving Tarangire River, Tarangire National Park is famous for its massive herds of buffalo, as well as elephants that flock to the Sllale Swamp area to drink and play. And where there are buffalo, there are bound to be their predators. It adds up to an under-explored but action-packed slice of authentic Africa, and Kuro Tarangire – a canvas-and-candlelight camp – is at its warm heart.

With just six Meru-style en suite tents and a family tent, Kuro Tarangire is an intimate camp that allows you to enjoy nature with as few distractions as possible. Game drives are limited to a maximum of six guests at a time, and night drives can be booked to go in search of leopards, owls, and other nocturnal creatures.

To truly immerse yourself in Tarangire, leave the 4x4 behind, lace up your hiking boots, and head out with an experienced guide on a bush walk to find some of the 550 bird species, zebras, roan antelope, and giraffes that are fortunate enough to call this landscape of baobabs, acacias and kigellas their home. Kuro Tarangire is a dry-season camp and is open from June to November every year.

Rooms

Meru-Style Tent

Each of Kuro Tarangire’s six Meru tents has its en suite bathrooms with bucket showers (hot water on demand), solar-powered lighting, and eco-flush toilets to leave as little permanent impact as possible.

A family tent, consisting of two en suite bedrooms and adjoining sitting areas, is available and children under 16 are permitted to share with their parents in a triple-bed tent.

Facilities

Kuro Tarangire is a seasonal camp that focuses completely on the splendor of the African wilderness that surrounds it. Although there is limited Internet connectivity and cellphone reception, very little else from the 21st century is permitted to intrude on your holiday. There is a complimentary laundry service that allows you to pack as little as possible.

Dining

Being in the fresh air from dawn can work up quite an appetite and Kuro Tarangire’s team of cooks will lay on good, home-style food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables to keep you going. In the late afternoons, look forward to sundowners in a picturesque part of Tarangire National Park. Private dining can be requested in the evening for special occasions.
