Itinerary (Day by Day)

  • Day 1: Arrive in Zimbabwe and Connect to Hwange National Park
  • After arriving at Victoria Falls Airport in Zimbabwe, your breathtaking safari trip begins! Your adventure begins with your short light aircraft flight from Victoria Falls through to Hwange National Park, one of the largest and most famous national parks. It is known for its large elephant, lion, and wild dog population. Once you have landed, you will be met by your friendly and experienced Somalisa Camp guide and taken by a game vehicle to the camp itself. Somalisa Camp is a luxurious property built and decorated with a romantic, turn-of-the-century exploration design in mind. Every luxury suite has been designed to take advantage of the incredible views over the wild land and nearby waterhole but with privacy in mind. Each suite is decorated with canvas, natural wood, copper, and leather to enhance the blending of luxury and safari.

  • Day 2-3: Safari in Hwange National Park
  • Hwange National Park is renowned for its large open spaces with pockets of bush and forest areas. The park is especially famous for its large and growing populations of elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and wild dogs. Your average day on safari at Somalisa Camp will include an early start with your guide, either on a game drive or walking safari. In the late morning, you will return to camp after a successful morning out and you can relax in camp either on your private verandah or in the main lounge area. There is a swimming pool that is guarded against animals but it does have a section where animals, including elephants, can come to drink. This is an amazing experience to have wild elephants so close and will make for some exquisite photos. Mid to late afternoon will include another safari experience before ending back at the camp. All meals are planned, prepared and served by the wonderful chefs and staff who are highly rated.

  • Day 4: Depart Hwange and Fly to Lake Kariba
  • Today you will enjoy a great breakfast in camp and a morning safari activity before checking out. You will then be taken by the game vehicle to the local airstrip and board a plane transfer to Bumi Hills on Lake Kariba. Bumi Hills is a luxury property built on the very top of an escarpment overlooking one of the world's largest man-made lakes. This really is the very best view of the lake and the sunsets are jaw-dropping. On landing at Bumi Hills Airstrip, you will be met by your guide and travel by game vehicle a short distance up the back end of the escarpment to the lodge. A complimentary 30-minute massage is included on arrival after check-in. After a hearty lunch, you will be transferred down the front of the escarpment to the private jetty and board a river boat. You will experience what many describe as the best sunset destination in the world. Sunset drinks and canapes are served on the boat. A wonderful dinner will be ready on your arrival back at the lodge.

  • Day 5-6: Explore Lake Kariba and Matusadona National Park
  • With several safari activities to choose from, including game drives, boat trips, bird and fishing trips, and walking safaris, your next two full days will be spent exploring this amazing and unique national park. We recommend experiencing a variety of activities throughout the day with your experienced and friendly guide to get the very best out of your experience. Each day will end with sunset drinks either on the water or shore before having dinner back at the lodge while watching the twinkling of Kapenta night fishing boats out in the distance on the lake.

  • Day 7: Transfer to Mana Pools National Park
  • This morning, after your final Kariba breakfast and morning activity, you will fly by light aircraft from the Bumi Hills Airstrip through to the magical wild frontier known as Mana Pools. Regarded as one of the last wild and fairly untouched safari landscapes in Africa, Mana Pools is a safari enthusiast and safari guide's dream. Your time in Mana Pools will be spent at one of the best luxury camps in the park, Ruckomechi Camp. Located right on the banks of the Zambezi River and surrounded by open plains and woodland behind the camp, enjoy views across the river to Zambia and the Rift Valley escarpment.

  • Day 8-9: Safari in Mana Pools National Park
  • Your next two days and nights will be spent exploring Mana Pools. The landscape varies from dense bush to open spaces and large sandbanks around the Zambezi River that runs through it. This national park is a mecca for photographers and wildlife filmmakers as hunts by leopards, lions, and wild dogs are often witnessed. You'll also see animals crossing the river from Mana Pools National Park to the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia. You can choose from several great safari activities including game drives, nature walks, river cruises, fishing, and bird watching with experienced and knowledgeable guides.

  • Today you will travel to your final destination on this safari circuit. After breakfast and your morning activity, you will fly from the local airstrip to Victoria Falls town. Once you have landed, you will be met by your guide and taken on a scenic game drive transfer to your final amazing luxury accommodation on this trip, Matetsi. Matetsi is situated along the banks of the Zambezi River, downstream from Victoria Falls. You will be far enough downstream to enjoy the serenity and sounds of the African bush but close enough for a short transfer to the bustling town of Victoria Falls with its markets, activities and indeed the Victoria Falls themselves. Matetsi is a beautifully designed luxury property that takes its contemporary design and use of space and natural light to take advantage of the stunning views over the river. Each room has ample space plus its own private plunge pool for hot days and nights. The dining experience is incredible and the personal service is unrivalled.

  • Day 11-12: Explore Victoria Falls and the Surrounds with Matetsi
  • Each day is brimming with new experiences. Matetsi is situated on its own private wildlife reserve so you can take advantage of more private safari experiences should you wish, either on foot, by game vehicle, or on water. As you are only 40km downstream from the mighty Victoria Falls, a visit to the Falls, town, and surrounding areas is highly recommended. There are so many sights and sounds to enjoy, from the natural beauty of the falls to the culture and history of the people and area. There is a myriad of adrenalin-fuelled activities to enjoy such as helicopter flights over the falls, boat cruises close to the falls, white water rafting, bungee jumping and more! These additional activities can be booked and paid for either through Matetsi or the third-party suppliers themselves on arrival.
