Ol Jogi detail

A collection of luxurious cottages set under grand shady trees, Ol Jogi sits on a family-operated wildlife conservancy on the famous Laikipia Plateau in Kenya. The reserve is home to roughly 7000 large mammals including the Big 5, the world's largest population of endangered Grevy's zebra, and significant numbers of other endangered animals. The core focus of the conservancy is wildlife conservation - there is a veterinary clinic, wildlife sanctuary and wildlife rehabilitation centre. During your stay, you can walk with rescued elephants, and may even be invited on a veterinary intervention.

The suites are built around the lodge’s main house, which has a welcoming and familiar atmosphere and is adorned with the owner's private art collection. Start your morning on the verandah that overlooks a busy waterhole, and if you want to get close to the wildlife, you can do so via an underground tunnel that leads to the waterhole hide. When the weather is clear, look out for Mount Kenya in the distance.

Ol Jogi prides itself on creating bespoke activities for its guests and the service it offers is exceptional: many staff members have been at the lodge for decades. Explore by 4X4, on foot and by horseback if you choose. Guests on a longer stay might even like to spend the day exploring the Rift Valley's great lakes and canyons by helicopter.

A world-class French chef takes care of the camp’s meals while senior rangers and community managers are on hand to ensure your requests are met, whether it is for a photographic game drive, a visit to a local village or a star-lit campout away from the lodge.

Ol Jogi with its 58,000 acres of pristine wilderness to explore is magic (no other word fits this very special place!) nestled into the hillside. I love that one comes across surprising and stunning vistas as you explore the nooks and crannies. After a day out exploring on horseback or foot settle in front of one of the cosy fireplaces to reflect on a perfect day. Ol Jogi Conservancy is all about wildlife and conservation, a place to call home for a little while, a place that will steal your heart. My tip is to book a helicopter flight to view the most beautiful part of Africa from above – well worth it!

Rooms

Cottage Suite

There are 13 individually designed suites at Ol Jogi, each featuring a dressing room and en suite bathroom as well as the main bedroom. Most cottages have a living room as well plus a private outdoor terrace overlooking the garden.

Everyday luxury is part of the accommodation experience: top-quality bedding, fine linens, fluffy towels and bathrobes are standard in every cottage as is Wi-Fi access, a telephone, mini-bar, safe and hairdryer.

Other Rooms

Families and groups of friends travelling together will enjoy the generously sized double-suite Simba and Mgobo Cottages, complete with indoor and outdoor living spaces and several bathrooms.

Facilities

The main house at Ol Jogi is generously equipped with facilities. You can relax in the lounge or bar, select a book from the library or settle back to watch a movie in the cinema room. You can also sit back at the camp’s in-house waterhole and watch wildlife – there is even an underground tunnel that brings you to the edge of the waterhole for unbeatable close-up photography.

For the more active guests, there is a games room, spa (with a sauna and Jacuzzi) and a fitness centre as well as a steam room while sporty guests will enjoy the tennis court. The lodge’s swimming pool is heated to allow for year-round bathing.

A compact business centre features an iMac, scanner, printer, phone and fax. There is a laundry service.

Dining

The French chef oversees a remarkable kitchen at Ol Jogi, sourcing much of its produce from its own organic gardens. Breads and pastries are baked daily and all dietary requirements can be catered for; you can even learn a few kitchen secrets first-hand from the chef himself. Families can ask for child-friendly dishes as well as earlier eating hours to accommodate youngsters’ routines

If not served outside, breakfast and lunch are served on the veranda with wonderful views of Mount Kenya and the lodge’s waterhole; dinners are served in the dining room in a more formal and luxurious setting. Candle-lit suppers for two as well as family meals may also be enjoyed in private.
