The Zanzibar Horse Club, located in Nungwi, offers a unique and engaging experience for horse riding enthusiasts and beginners alike. Established in 2018, the club began with three rescue ponies and has since expanded to include a total of 40 horses and 16 staff members. The club operates from three stables situated in Nungwi, Kendwa, and Kidoti village.
Types of Rides Offered
The club provides a variety of accompanying rides tailored to suit different tastes and skill levels. These include:
Safety Measures
To ensure safety during rides, all participants are required to wear helmets, long trousers or leggings, and appropriate footwear such as trainers or boots. The weight limit for riders is set at a maximum of 90 kilograms at Nungwi Stables and 80 kilograms at Kidoti Stables. Additionally, women beyond their fifth month of pregnancy are advised against riding.
Booking Information
Riders can book their experiences online up to two months in advance. It’s important to note that all rides are dependent on tidal conditions; therefore, scheduling may vary from day to day based on high and low tides.
Animal Welfare Commitment
The Zanzibar Horse Club is actively involved in animal welfare initiatives on the island. They donate 10% of their profits monthly to Zaaso, an animal charity that focuses on horse and donkey sanctuaries as well as general animal clinic services.
In summary, horse riding in Nungwi offers an exciting blend of adventure, cultural immersion, and commitment to animal welfare through the Zanzibar Horse Club’s diverse range of activities tailored for all levels of riders.
