Acacia Mara Bush House detail

With twisty tree trunks that seem to ‘grow’ from its walls and a cool, wide timber patio that overlooks the Ol Chorno waterhole in the Mara North Conservancy, Acacia House is the perfect combination of form and function. An exclusive-use house that sleeps up to six comfortably, it is ideally suited to families with young children who will enjoy hanging out at the toy-filled ‘schoolroom’ which is two minutes away, and splashing in the baby pool by day, and watching ‘bush TV’ (or real TV!) by night before crawling into their cozy loft bedroom.

For the grown-ups, there are thrilling game drives, lazy days at the free-form pool, reviving afternoon tea on the verandah, and jolly nights around the barbeque under a blanket of African stars. Fly camping to nearby Naboisho Camp can also be arranged for those who want an exhilarating night spent on the open, game-filled plains.

With tasty meals, enthusiastic and knowledgeable Maasai staff, and a laid-back atmosphere that will have you kicking off your shoes the moment you arrive, Acacia House is an idyllic stop-off on your East African journey.

Facilities

In addition to its unique location near the Ol Chorno waterhole, Acacia House has all the elements that a great holiday home needs: sparkling swimming pool and children’s pool; attractive barbeque area; TV room; romantic log fireplace; and power points for charging your all-important camera.

As well as facilitated game drives and fly camping, guests at Acacia House can also choose to visit the schools and villages in the area to learn more about Maasai culture and how it is evolving. Children will love the activities laid on for them by friendly staff – where else could they learn how to milk an African nanny goat?

Dining

Despite their remote location, the chefs at Acacia House bake their biscuits and bread, and even hand-make their delicious ice cream. The herbs they use are home-grown, while fragrant spices are brought in from the balmy Kenyan coast, and organic meat from the country’s best cattle farms, plus, they will happily accommodate dietary preferences. As well as three tasty meals a day, guests gather at 4 pm after their afternoon siestas for a traditional – and reviving – afternoon tea on the cool verandah.
