A tented safari camp set at the bottom of the Laikipia Plateau in the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya, on a gorgeous semi-permanent stream. Porini Rhino Camp is situated in the private Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a conservation area that is firmly focused on protecting the local environment. Feel a part of it all, with constant research carried out in the area.
It's also a haven for rescued chimpanzees and is home to the Big 5. The camp adopts a philosophy of sustainable and responsible tourism and aims to generate income for the local Maasai community. The staff and guides are outstanding. Visit the Northern white Rhino enclosure, only 7 left in the world, and 4 are located in the Laikapa/Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
Highlights
Activities
The Porini Camps are all outstanding but Rhino remains the most special to me. The guides here are incredible - you can just see they love what they do! Porini you have yet another raving fan!
Rooms
Standard Tent
Porini Rhino Camp has six spacious and well-appointed tents with their balconies, allowing you to marvel at the huge views. The tents have en suite bathroom facilities and are designed to deliver total comfort.
Facilities
Set off on game drives in the private Ol Pejeta Conservancy, home to not only the Big 5 but also rescued chimpanzees and the endangered black rhino.
If your timing is right then you'll get the wildebeest migration as well. Return to camp and unwind at the Porini Rhino Camp's bar where you can discuss the day's adventures with your fellow guests.
Dining
There's an alfresco theme when it comes to dining at Porini Rhino: you can enjoy picnic lunches out in the bush while sundowner drinks are served with a view during evening game drives, allowing you to enjoy a beautiful African sunset while out on the savannah.
The kitchen bakes fresh bread daily and dinner consists of multiple courses of high-quality, locally-grown produce, and served in the dining area. On warm and clear nights, dinner may be enjoyed under the stars.
