Lake Natron is a salt and soda lake located in northern Tanzania. Known for its high alkalinity, it has a pH level as high as 10.5 and is a breeding ground for flamingos. The lake's unique red color is due to the presence of pigmented bacteria and algae. It is situated near the border with Kenya and is part of the East African Rift system. The surrounding area is characterized by volcanic landscapes and the Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano, which is active and adds to the lake's mineral content.
