NALE MURU GATE – SIMBA CAMP: 7KM /5MI | 3-4 HRS | RAINFOREST
Departing from Moshi a 4-5 hour drive will take you through the coffee plantations and Village of Nale Muru to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. We will patiently wait for our permits to be issued while watching the hustle and bustle of operations as many crews prepare for the journey ahead Enjoy the beautiful wooded scenery, and windy trails while your guide tells you about the local flora and fauna and natural wildlife you are likely to see. Simba camp sits near the first cave at the edge of the moorland zone with spectacular views of the plains of Kenya.

- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
-
SIMBA CAMP – SECOND CAVE CAMP: 5.8KM/3.6MI | 5-6HRS | MOORLAND
After a good night sleep and a hearty breakfast we continue along moorland terrain on a consistent ascending path. You will catch some terrific views of Kibo and get your first glimpse of the ice fields on the Eastern crater rim. The small shrubs of the moorland became thinner as you approve the Second Cave. Temperatures begin to drop.
- Second Cave Camp
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
-
SECOND CAVE CAMP – THIRD CAVE CAMP: 3.3KM/2MI | 3-4HRS | SEMI DESERT
After breakfast and packing, you continue your stead ascent, entering into the semi-desert terrain. This relatively short hiking day brings you closer to the Easter ice fields, continually drawing your attention to their beauty. Pay attention to your body and keep your guide informed of any signs of altitude sickness.
- Third Cave Camp
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
THIRD CAVE CAMP- KIBO HUTS: 6.7KM/4.2MI | 4-5HRS | ALPINE DESERT
As you depart early the semi-desert zone from the Third Cave early in the morning and begin your trek into the Alpine Desert terrain for the remainder of your ascent. Today’s hike will take you just below the Kibo crater wall to the Kibo Huts. At this point, you will merge with the Marangu Route, which you will use to hike to the summit. You will prepare your clothing and equipment (replace batteries for headlamp and camera) before you go to bed by 7 PM and try to catch a few hours of rest before your summit attempt.
- Kibo Hut
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
KIBO HUTS – SUMMIT: 4KM /2.5 MI UP | 5-7HRS | – HOROMBO HUTS: 15.75KM /9.8MI DOWN | 5-6HRS | GLACIERS, SNOW CAPPED SUMMIT
Around midnight, begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Hike by the light of your flashlight for the next six hours. The ascent to the crater rim is the most challenging part of the entire trek. The trail is very steep until you reach the crater rim at Gilman's Point. The hike from Gilman's to Uhuru Peak is a gradual climb and, as far as hikes go, not very difficult. The altitude, however, makes the hike long and tiring. The crater rim hike takes about two hours. Upon reaching Uhuru, take photos of your guide and group at the peak before beginning the descent to Horombo Hut.
- Horombo Hut
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
HOROMBO HUTS – MARANGU GATE – MOSHI: 20KM/12.5MI |6-7HRS | RAINFOREST
After breakfast and a heartfelt ceremony of appreciation and team bonding with your crew it’s time to say goodbye. We continue the descent down stopping at the Mandara Huts for lunch. Remember to tip your guides, cooks, and porters, since you will be leaving them here. You return back to the Marangu Park Gate and receive your summit certificates. As the weather is drastically warmer, the terrain is wet, muddy and steep and we highly recommend Gaiters and trekking poles. From the gate, a vehicle will meet you to drive to your hotel in Arusha (about 45 minutes). Enjoy a long overdue hot shower, dinner and celebrations!!

Arusha to Serengeti National Park
Arusha to Serengeti National Park You will transfer to Arusha Airport for your flight into the Serengeti National Park which is thriving with wildlife, where you will be collected for a game drive or transfer to the camp. The park has numerous habitats – from grassland plains, savannah, and woodlands to riverine forests. Keep a look out for Thomson and Grants gazelles, zebra, hyenas, giraffes and much more. If luck is on your side you can also spot the big cats. On arrival, you will be met at camp by the Great Migration Camps team who will welcome you and settle you into your tents and brief you about camp life. There may be time for a short game drive, else freshen up in the hot showers. In the evening we will enjoy some refreshing sundowners surrounded by the beauty and stillness of the bush. Then a delicious meal will be cooked over an open fire where you sit around and talk about the day's highlights.

Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park We will rise early and have a quick breakfast so that we can set off to enjoy the beauty of the bush at dawn. Our main aim today is to keep track of the migrating herds of the wildebeest. Their patterns can be unpredictable as they follow their instincts for food and water. The days are flexible and we will stop along the way for lunch and to stretch our legs in a shaded spot or designated picnic area. This is a great time to do some birdwatching and learn more about their migratory patterns. We will return to camp where there will be hot showers to wash off the African dust. Then you can relax around the campsite enjoying refreshing drinks and talking about your wildlife experiences before retiring to your comfortable tents with foam mattresses and sleeping bags.

Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park We will arise early again to get the show on the road and experience the beauty of an African sunset. Another day will be spent watching for signs of the migration and exploring the Serengeti. The Serengeti has nearly 2 million wildebeest and zebra that charge through the area on a cyclical basis. The beauty of the Serengeti is unsurpassed with the endless horizons, big blue sky and smatterings of acacia trees and other shrubs. Come evening time we will once again wash off the dust and then settle in for a night around the campfire socialising, drinking and eating.

Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park to migrate or not to migrate - that is the question? Do we stay on our quest following the wildebeest herds and the wide variety of game that thrives on the migration. Or perhaps we go searching for big cats. As always we remain flexible with our game viewing programmer, depending on what we have seen and what is happening in the area. Perhaps a relaxed lunch at camp is on the agenda, but regardless we will gather around the camp fire in the evening to discuss all that we have seen and experienced and having learned how and why the wildebeest migrate based on geology, soils, rainfalls and more.

How 2 Book Your Safari
• You make an inquiry.
• We contact you to set up an initial phone consultation (one person or whole group).
• We develop a first draft itinerary.
• Several variations are made until the perfect itinerary is reached.
• Prior to going to contract we have our office in Arusha run a comprehensive availability check on all accommodations and request provisional bookings.
• If all accommodations are available, you are sent a final contract/itinerary for signing and your deposit is due (see Terms & Conditions). If availability is not possible at some of your desired locations, we seek out alternate options prior to going to contract.
• Once you sign and return your contract, our office in Arusha submits booking vouchers and makes necessary deposits to all the accommodations to finalize the bookings.
• Signed and stamped booking vouchers are scanned and emailed to you as confirmation of your bookings.
Late Bookings
When booked well in advance (6 months or more), there is usually no problem in securing all the desired accommodations. However, when we encounter full locations, we place immediate bookings at alternate locations and then, time permitting, present these options to you for a final decision. Typically, we have been very good at getting excellent locations, even last minute. While it is true that many lodges do indeed fill up quickly, we find that rooms usually open up as the date gets closer due to the release of rooms from block bookings.
What are block bookings?
It is common for large tour operators who organize group tours to book a block of rooms in anticipation that their pre-planned itineraries will operate at full capacity. Many lodges allow block bookings without deposit, but force the tour operators to pay for these rooms or release them as the actual dates get near (between 45 and 60 days in advance). What does this mean for a private tour? It means that sometimes it can be difficult to secure certain accommodations that cater to group tours.
