Aim of this safari will be to experience the “wildebeest give birth to their offspring” which only takes place once a year from January to end of March, an exciting natural phenomenon not to be missed. Approximately 8,000 young wildebeest are born every single day during the peak of the season. It’s the best place to witness the predators hunting their prey. From late January and early February, perhaps the greatest spectacle of the Serengeti takes place with the wildebeest calving season.

Arrival in Tanzania
This day is set aside for your arrival in Tanzania and Moonlight Tours Expedition representative meets you on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport. He or she will transfer you to your hotel around Arusha. Mount Meru Hotel in Arusha town. Your dinner is included.

Arusha – Tarangire National Park
After a long flight to Africa, we usually recommend starting easy while also cutting down the distances and so after breakfast, you will be picked up and our 8 days Wildebeest calving safari will start then transferred to Tarangire National Park in a 4×4 Safari jeep. At Tarangire, we register at the gate and continue with game drives for the rest of the day as we explore the African wilderness for the first day of our safari. This park is famous for its the large populations of elephants and its gigantic age-old baobabs, but it has much more to offer in terms of many animals and birds that are resident to this park. We expect to see lions, cheetahs, warthogs, gazelles, dik-diks, the rare long-necked gerenuks and many more. Later in the afternoon, we retire to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Lemala Mpingo Ridge Lodge. All meals included.

Tarangire – Ndutu Plains/South Serengeti
Breakfast at the lodge, or Camp early this morning and we are off to Ndutu plains for the migration safari in Southern Serengeti. We will have a brief stop at the Loduare Main Gate before entering the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, another brief stop to take pictures and get some stunning views over the Ngorongoro Crater floor. We will then drive further to Lake Ndutu area where the action takes place during the months of December through March. A picnic will be served and the afternoon will be spent doing game drives until later in the afternoon time to check in at the lodge or camp for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Lemala Ndutu Tented Camps. All meals included.

Ndutu Plains Calving Safari
These 2 more days will be spent at the Ndutu plains within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Ndutu plains are where it all happens in the month of January to March as the wildebeest’s Migration give birth to thousands of young calves every day. At Ndutu plains with the green pastures during this time of the year and the rich mineral soils that the herds adore you are sure to see the thousands of wildebeests accompanied by zebras, and gazelles spread along vast areas, as well as have the rare chance to witness some real wildlife action as the predators engage the herds and try to snatch their loved newly born foals. Walking safari with an armed range is also an optional activity that you can enjoy at Ndutu, and you only need to ask your diver to arrange that. Accompanied by an armed ranger you will see animals at close range while listening to the lectures offered by the trained naturalists and rangers. Ndutu is also an amazing place to be for the avid bird watchers with 400 recorded resident and migratory bird species recorded. Overnight at Lemala Ndutu Tented Camp. All meals included.

Serengeti National Park
It is worth visiting the Serengeti National Park has come this far. After breakfast at your camp, we check out and drive a short distance to the Naabi Hill Gate where you will register and enter the Serengeti National Park for a day of game drives around the Central areas like Seronera Valley and around the Moru Kopjes. Later in the afternoon, you will check in at the lodge or camp for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Lemala Nanyukie Tented Camp. All meals included.

Ngorongoro Crater Safari
Early morning breakfast and check out of the lodge or camp and drive back to the Ngorongoro Crater. We will register at the Naabi Hill Gate again and at the Senator Gate then descend the 600 high walls of the Ngorongoro Crater to the floor of the Crater for a full day of Game drives. Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unbroken Caldera in the world and a wonderful place to be with an estimated 20000 animals roaming such a small area of just about 21 Kilometers across. The Crater offers the last chance to clock the Big five with the best chance to spot the black rhinos and leopards as well as many other animals. Later in the afternoon we will ascend up the Crater rim for overnight at Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp.

Ngorongoro – Arusha
Breakfast at your lodge then you will drive back to Arusha where your safari ends. At Arusha, you can be dropped at The Arusha Airport for or transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for departure. End of our 8 days Wildebeest calving safari Serengeti.

How 2 Book Your Safari
• You make an inquiry.
• We contact you to set up an initial phone consultation (one person or whole group).
• We develop a first draft itinerary.
• Several variations are made until the perfect itinerary is reached.
• Prior to going to contract we have our office in Arusha run a comprehensive availability check on all accommodations and request provisional bookings.
• If all accommodations are available, you are sent a final contract/itinerary for signing and your deposit is due (see Terms & Conditions). If availability is not possible at some of your desired locations, we seek out alternate options prior to going to contract.
• Once you sign and return your contract, our office in Arusha submits booking vouchers and makes necessary deposits to all the accommodations to finalize the bookings.
• Signed and stamped booking vouchers are scanned and emailed to you as confirmation of your bookings.
Late Bookings
When booked well in advance (6 months or more), there is usually no problem in securing all the desired accommodations. However, when we encounter full locations, we place immediate bookings at alternate locations and then, time permitting, present these options to you for a final decision. Typically, we have been very good at getting excellent locations, even last minute. While it is true that many lodges do indeed fill up quickly, we find that rooms usually open up as the date gets closer due to the release of rooms from block bookings.
What are block bookings?
It is common for large tour operators who organize group tours to book a block of rooms in anticipation that their pre-planned itineraries will operate at full capacity. Many lodges allow block bookings without deposit, but force the tour operators to pay for these rooms or release them as the actual dates get near (between 45 and 60 days in advance). What does this mean for a private tour? It means that sometimes it can be difficult to secure certain accommodations that cater to group tours.
