Arrival at JRO - Arusha
Arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by one of our experienced driver guide, ready to greet and escort you to Arusha and your chosen hotel. He will introduce you to this wonderful city and country. After your long flight, you will be pleased to discover that Arusha – the undisputed ‘safari capital’ of East Africa-is perched at 1400 meters above sea level, keeping the temperatures and humidity relatively low. All around this important city are some of Tanzania’s greatest delights. Mount Meru towers above Arusha, while even distant Kilimanjaro can be seen on a clear day. Arusha provides the ideal starting-point for safari-lovers, within reach of Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. The city even has its own natural attraction, Arusha National Park, close by. Named after the Wa-arusha residents of the town, this busy agricultural, administrative and tourist center is the perfect place to relax after a long journey and before you set off on safari, the holiday of a lifetime. Welcome to Arusha and welcome to Tanzania!

Arusha - Serengeti Ndutu Area
Today, your adventure begins after breakfast at your hotel. We’re driving north and west, introducing you to the wonders of the Tanzanian landscapes as we head for Ndutu in the south-eastern part of the Serengeti. Our drive today is around 280km, five hours of changing scenery before we arrive at our destination. Although Nature and its rainfall determine exactly where the migrating animals will be in winter, Ndutu is a reliable base at this time of the year, allowing us to maximize our opportunities for tracking the animals. During the journey to Ndutu, you will begin to appreciate the sheer scale of Tanzania’s territory. The raw beauty of the landscapes will reveal itself. Your driver-guide will help you to spot any animals and birds on the way and answer any questions about what you see. Serengeti is of course a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an incredible mix of grasslands, savannah, woods and mountain scenery, a haven for the wildlife which congregates in this fantastic natural setting. On arrival, we make the most of our time with an afternoon game drive in the Ndutu area. After today’s journey and game-drive, your driver will take you safely to your accommodation for your overnight stay.

Ndutu Area
Having had a taster the previous afternoon, today you have the whole day ahead of you in the Ndutu area, spotting all varieties of wildlife ‘on the move’ with your expert driver-guide. Each day is different here, but we focus of course on the Great Migration, that unique natural wonder which involves a cast of breathtaking numbers, literally hundreds of thousands of animals as they make their annual journey across the plains. Zebra and wildebeest are the most numerous of the migrating animals here, grazing on the short-grass plains of the Southern Serengeti and the northern part of the Ngorongoro Conservation area. But your driver-guide will also be on the lookout for other wildlife, too, using his expertise and ‘eagle-eyes’ to try to find elephant, lions, buffalo, leopard and cheetah – just some of the many, many species you will encounter in this stunning place. At the end of the afternoon, it’s back to your accommodation for a cool drink, some relaxation, a delicious dinner and the chance to discuss what you’ve seen during the day’s safari… as well as to check your priceless photos.

Central Serengeti National Park
Today our journey continues as we head from the edge of the Serengeti into its very heart…but not before we seize a final opportunity for a morning game drive around Ndutu, where we are sure to see something new. But now Serengeti beckons, and so we continue to head north and west into what is surely the world’s greatest park. At times this unsurpassable place is home to over 1.6 million herbivores and the thousands of predators who stalk them. Their fascinating habits and habitats are sure to provoke questions, so do ask your driver-guide to explain the amazing creatures you see all around you. At night, back at your accommodation, the sights, sounds and smells of Africa will continue to enchant you on this wilderness adventure.

Waking up in the Serengeti is something really special. Sights, sounds and smells of Africa are all around us, and ahead is a full day of adventure in the world’s most famous national park. After breakfast, we start today with the morning section of our game drive in Serengeti National Park, marveling at the stunning scenery, ever changing light and always entertaining wildlife, all explained to you by your expert driver-guide. After our picnic lunch, we set off again, searching for wildlife in this awe-inspiring park. Serengeti’s wonders evolve subtly as the day progresses. The myriad animals and birds are the ‘stars of the show’ and Nature’s dramas can unfold at any time. Of course, the animals don’t work to any schedule, so we may find lion or leopard, elephant and zebra, cheetah and antelope at any time on our drives. At the end of the afternoon, we return to the camp for dinner and some much needed rest. Note: For those who have booked the Balloon Safari for today, you will be picked up from the camp at 05.00 hours for a 06.00 hours departure. A Day in the Life of a Maasai village in Ngorongoro Highlands
You may want to sit down with the Maasai women and learn how to create the intricate beadwork they have become well-known for. The tedious technique—and the ease with which they string the beads together—is a testament to this tradition’s importance. Or, join the Maasai men as they tend to their livestock, and perhaps help them move their cattle to and from the grazing field. We will also have the opportunity to try on the vibrantly-colored, traditional Maasai dress, and join in on a dance celebration. You will hear chanting, rhythmic drumming, and shared laughter—there’s nothing quite like dancing to break the ice across cultures. As you partake, notice how the Maasai women bob their necks, causing their beaded jewelry to do a dance of their own. And, watch as the Maasai men show off their famous jumping. Then, we will participate in an intimate Q&A session with the village elders. This is a great opportunity to truly get to know the tribes people, asking questions about family dynamics, tribal medicine and healing techniques, their thoughts about technology, and more.

Farewell to Africa
Today may be ‘departure day’, but there will be plenty of time to enjoy another true spectacle, before your thoughts turn to home. Ngorongoro Crater is often referred to as a wonder of the world and your early morning game drive shows you why. First, there’s the volcanic caldera (the world’s largest), full of grassland, forest and swamp, a setting of jaw-dropping beauty. Secondly, the permanent water of the crater floor supports a resident population of more than 25,000 large mammals. Here you’ll find many of the reasons you chose to come on safari: elephant, lion, leopard, hyena, jackal, wallowing hippo, waterbuck, baboons… even the rare black rhino finds shelter here. Sharing this awesome space with the animals are the Maasai, grazing their cattle in an area which has been a separate conservation area since 1956 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978. This harmonious co-habitation of man and beast makes Ngorongoro unique in Tanzania and your driver guide will be pleased to explain this incredible co-existence to you. After your early morning game drive, we have our picnic lunch in the crater before we return to the airport for your flight home. You will drive for 5 hours from Ngorongoro Crater Floor to Kilimanjaro International Airport. End of our Calving Season Ndutu Serengeti.

How 2 Book Your Safari
• You make an inquiry.
• We contact you to set up an initial phone consultation (one person or whole group).
• We develop a first draft itinerary.
• Several variations are made until the perfect itinerary is reached.
• Prior to going to contract we have our office in Arusha run a comprehensive availability check on all accommodations and request provisional bookings.
• If all accommodations are available, you are sent a final contract/itinerary for signing and your deposit is due (see Terms & Conditions). If availability is not possible at some of your desired locations, we seek out alternate options prior to going to contract.
• Once you sign and return your contract, our office in Arusha submits booking vouchers and makes necessary deposits to all the accommodations to finalize the bookings.
• Signed and stamped booking vouchers are scanned and emailed to you as confirmation of your bookings.
Late Bookings
When booked well in advance (6 months or more), there is usually no problem in securing all the desired accommodations. However, when we encounter full locations, we place immediate bookings at alternate locations and then, time permitting, present these options to you for a final decision. Typically, we have been very good at getting excellent locations, even last minute. While it is true that many lodges do indeed fill up quickly, we find that rooms usually open up as the date gets closer due to the release of rooms from block bookings.
What are block bookings?
It is common for large tour operators who organize group tours to book a block of rooms in anticipation that their pre-planned itineraries will operate at full capacity. Many lodges allow block bookings without deposit, but force the tour operators to pay for these rooms or release them as the actual dates get near (between 45 and 60 days in advance). What does this mean for a private tour? It means that sometimes it can be difficult to secure certain accommodations that cater to group tours.
