  • Zanzibar - Stone Town

Arrive into Zanzibar Airport/Harbor. Upon arrival you will be transferred to the heart of Stone Town where your hotel is located. Zanzibar has a rich history and it became a center of trade once it was settled by the Portuguese in the 16th and 17th Century. Zanzibar once held the title of being Africa's major hub of trade before the mainland became more settled and tamed (if Africa could ever be considered tamed). Zanzibar is also known as the 'Spice Island' due to this period when spice was its major trade followed closely by the slave trade and ivory. Zanzibar still today flourishes with the trade of spices, it’s most common exports being cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and pepper. UNESCO listed Stone Town is rich in history and culture, with a labyrinth of narrow streets, bustling bazaars and ancient buildings. The architecture is a fascinating mix of Swahili, Arab, Persian, European and African styles, testament to the influence that trade brought to the region.

  • Stone Town & Spice Tour

The town is full of historic monuments, as you walk slowly and the history will starts to Stone Town and a spice plantation en-route to the beach. You will get the opportunity to see a spice plantation and the process involved in harvesting these perfumed ingredients. Today we take spices for granted but they were once as precious as gems or gold with pirates often cruising the coast pilfering ships for their precious spice cargo. Once you've checked into your hotel, spend the rest of the day at leisure and perhaps enjoy a dip in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.

  • Relax On Beach

Spend the next two days at leisure, relaxing on one of Zanzibar's beautiful white sands and soaking up the sunshine. For those feeling active, there's a wide range of excursions available. Perhaps opt for a spot of snorkeling or scuba diving to see the incredible coral reefs teeming with exotic fish and perhaps the odd dolphin in the azure waters. Other activities in or above the water include fishing, windsurfing or various boat trips. Traditional dhow cruises are offered by the locals and are a great way to see the local lifestyle or island hop to some of the smaller uninhabited islands. Also consider a day trip to Jozani Chwaka Bay national Park - home to the rare Kirk's Red Colobus Monkey, Syke's Monkey and Ader's Duiker.

How 2 Book Your Safari

• You make an inquiry.

• We contact you to set up an initial phone consultation (one person or whole group).

• We develop a first draft itinerary.

• Several variations are made until the perfect itinerary is reached.

• Prior to going to contract we have our office in Arusha run a comprehensive availability check on all accommodations and request provisional bookings.

• If all accommodations are available, you are sent a final contract/itinerary for signing and your deposit is due (see Terms & Conditions). If availability is not possible at some of your desired locations, we seek out alternate options prior to going to contract.

• Once you sign and return your contract, our office in Arusha submits booking vouchers and makes necessary deposits to all the accommodations to finalize the bookings.

• Signed and stamped booking vouchers are scanned and emailed to you as confirmation of your bookings.

Late Bookings

When booked well in advance (6 months or more), there is usually no problem in securing all the desired accommodations. However, when we encounter full locations, we place immediate bookings at alternate locations and then, time permitting, present these options to you for a final decision. Typically, we have been very good at getting excellent locations, even last minute. While it is true that many lodges do indeed fill up quickly, we find that rooms usually open up as the date gets closer due to the release of rooms from block bookings.

What are block bookings?

It is common for large tour operators who organize group tours to book a block of rooms in anticipation that their pre-planned itineraries will operate at full capacity. Many lodges allow block bookings without deposit, but force the tour operators to pay for these rooms or release them as the actual dates get near (between 45 and 60 days in advance). What does this mean for a private tour? It means that sometimes it can be difficult to secure certain accommodations that cater to group tours.
